OUR FAQS

We’re Here For You

HOW THICK ARE THE NEEDLES?  DO THEY HURT?

The acupuncture needles are as thin as human hair; many people misunderstand for regular thick needles used to extract blood.  Each patient feels differently when the needles penetrate their skin.  Some feel like a short pinching that lasts less than a second, but others mostly feel a little or none.  Once the needles are inserted, most patients feel relaxed and even fall asleep as they enjoy the moment of silence.

WILL I GET INFECTED FROM NEEDLES?

No.  The needles are stainless and sterilized thoroughly and packaged prior to use.  Once used, they are disposed into a biohazard container.

Acupuncture has been proven to be extremely safe when practiced by a licensed acupuncturist.  Occasionally, there may be a bruise at the needled site or a drop of blood will exude when the needle is withdrawn.  The needles are strong but very thin, roughly equivalent to the thickness of a human hair.

HOW LONG IS EACH SESSION?

Initial treatment will last between 60 and 90 minutes, depending upon patient’s chief complaints and thorough medical history inquiry.  Continuing visits will last for about 45 minutes.  After needles are inserted, acupuncturist lets patients rest for about 30 minutes before returning and taking out the needles.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED BEFORE FEELING BETTER?  HOW OFTEN SHOULD I COME?

Every patient responds differently.  Generally, acute or short-term conditions will take less time to resolve and chronic or long-term conditions will require more treatments.  Some symptoms are relieved after the initial visit, but most symptoms require multiple visits.

Your first visit is comprehensive, reviewing all your systems from a western medical standpoint, and through the lens of Chinese medicine.  In this way, the practitioner determines what underlies the various presenting symptoms, and sets out a treatment plan to alleviate the immediate problem and its root.  Ultimately, the goal is to resolve the complaint.  We like to equip you with knowledge on how to take care of yourself to prevent recurrence.  This counseling comes through discussion during treatment sessions.

Follow-up visits for maintenance are often recommended, at least twice per week.  Many people choose to continue because acupuncture improves metabolic function, making them feeling better, stronger and relaxed.

WHAT CONDITIONS DOES ACUPUNCTURE TREAT?

In the United States, acupuncture is best known for its ability to treat pain but actually, acupuncture covers a wide range of spectrum, from maintaining health to improving the quality of life during end-stage disease.  In addition, acupuncture is used together with chemotherapy, infertility treatments, physical rehabilitation, and immune support.  Acupuncture also treats many chronic conditions in a minimally invasive way, often reducing the need for pain-relieving medications.  This benefits the patient’s overall health, speeds up recovery time, reduces hospitalization time, and reduces doctor visits.
